We had another great time of learning about and worshiping the Lord at Camp Caswell! We had 34 youth and adults, with lots of fun and fellowship!
Our theme for the weeks was “On This Rock”. With our theme verse of –
On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hades will not overcome it.
Our first night at camp, Monday, Eddie Briery talked to us about WORSHIP. To achieve success – we NEED to do church God’s Way! Worship has nothing to do with music. Music is praise. It’s not about your jam – It is about THE MAN! Worship comes from deep down. Praise can be to many – but worship is reserved for 1. When we worship – we need to say –GOD use ME today!
On Tuesday we talked about Discipleship. Discipleship means to be a learner – any follower of another person. “Following” is a part of society. Whom you follow affects how you live. My responsibility as a follower of Christ is to let what I know about Jesus affect how I live.
Acts 2:42-47 says:
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teachingx and to fellowship, to the breaking of bready and to prayer.z 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.a 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common.b 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.c 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.d They broke breade in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.f And the Lord added to their numberg daily those who were being saved.
The book of Acts records there was a community of believers whose entire lives were controlled by their commitment to follow Christ. According to this passage there are 5 key elements to being a disciple of Christ. They are:
Devotion to the Disciples’ Teaching
Breaking of Bread
We need to be thankful to God for loving us and sending His Son. Jesus is an example for me. With the guidance of the Lord we can be true disciples.
WE ARE TEAM JESUS!
On Wednesday we talked about Evangelism. Evangelism is sharing the gospel. The story and truth of Jesus Christ. The Gospel tells us that Jesus is the Son of God, that he came to earth and lived a perfect, sinless life. He suffered greatly and died horribly. He rose from the dead 3 days later, giving us a chance to experience forgiveness of our sins and eternal life with HIM.
Thursday night we talked about Missions. Missions is sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with all the world. We are called to do missions – which is evangelism here, there, and everywhere.
Matthew 28:18-20 says:
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
And Acts 1:8 says:
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Why should we do missions? Why should we share Jesus with others?
Because Jesus told us to. The passages from Matthew and Acts give us direct commands to share the good news. There are billions of people that don’t much about Him.
We should want everyone to know Jesus and His great sacrifice. We want them to know he paid for our sins and overcame death so we can be with Him for eternity.
